Planning for our urban core
Urban planning efforts usually have three goals: improve public health, improve public safety and increase the wealth of individuals as they contribute to the economy of the city. These goals tend to be achieved as recommendations for improved efficiencies related to infrastructure and human behavior are implemented. These recommendations are generated during a planning process which identifies existing issues and opportunities related the use of particular land areas.
The planning effort is essentially identifying issues that actually exist, and addressing those issues so that they can be resolved. As well, it requires the planner to identify opportunities that might occur from rehabilitation or reconstruction that would allow the performance of infrastructure to improve; accommodating positive human behavior in a more efficient way.
